Are There Missionaries in the Bible?

Yes, there are many! Almost every story in both the Old and New Testament are stories involving a cross cultural witness. Joseph, Esther, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, Ruth, and Abraham are all stories of believers engaging, living in, or witnessing to cultures other than their own.

Abraham was called "out” of his own nation and “sent” to another nation.
Jonah was sent to Nineveh to witness.
Jeremiah was called “a prophet to the nations” when he was still in the womb.
Jesus sent out missionaries two by two
Paul made regular "mission" trips throughout the book of Acts, visiting most of central Asia in his lifetime.

Scripture teaches us that God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow so He is still calling those who hear His voice to go out into the world to share the good news and make disciples. God's heart is to show the world how much He loves them and He tells us to pray for harvest workers because the need is great and the world is ready to hear - but those who answer the call and go are few.

This December, Chris has an opportunity to lead a team from Turning Point Church in Texas to the Philippines. The team will be in Iloilo serving at Camp Sonshine Center that has a large ministry team committed to bringing hope to the community through Children's ministry, educational programs and scholarships, to feeding programs, and personal discipleship.
